Sometimes would be nice to have 2 identical Blue angle guides on both sides of the stone. I attached small strips of duct tape on upper portion of the guide. 2 layers of duct tape adds 1 degree. Now I can have two 15 degrees guides. One is a regular one and another one is 14 degrees with duct tape on it. Took me 1 minute to cut 2 duct tape strips. The same trick can be done with Orange cones. For example, you need 15 degrees Orange angle guide, not 14 or 16 degrees. Take 14 degrees guide and attach 3 layers of duct tape on upper portion (above stainless spring spring). Done. You have 15 degrees guide. Another note about Orange guides. What if the correct angle is 15, not 14 or 16? If you need micro bevel 15 degrees, then most likely your knife is Japanese style. Japanese knives usually have sides inclined 1 degree per side. Some people forget that knife sides have incline to central line and that incline should be counted. So if you use 14 degrees cone, it will make 14+1=15 degrees micro bevel. More tips ... |
